As a grid operator, Stedin is responsible for a safe and reliable transport of electricity and gas in the Randstad to almost two million private, business and government customers. In addition, Stedin is responsible as network manager for the construction, expansion and maintenance of the transport network. Stedin is a 100% subsidiary of Eneco Holding NV and has offices in Rotterdam, Utrecht and Delft.

The Task
In 2009, Stedin formulated the objective to be PAS 55 certified by the end of the year and to be distinctive in terms of reliability, efficiency and safety in 2013. This required a professional maintenance function and for that reason Mainnovation was asked to make an inventory of the current situation and to draw up a vision for the future including an improvement program for Inspection and Maintenance.

The Approach
Mainnovation started with the inventory of the current situation of Inspection and Maintenance by means of a short and intensive VDMXL audit. The non-conformities with the PAS55 guideline have been identified and translated into improvement plans and a Project Initiation Document. Based on the VDMXL methodology that Mainnovation integrated within Stedin, the PAS55 certification was achieved. After the certification Mainnovation supported Stedin and its subcontractor Joulz with the introduction of a number of the improvement plans.

The added value of Mainnovation
Executing a vision trajectory based on the Value Driven Maintenance philosophy has helped to monitor the integration of ongoing improvement initiatives. The VDM model and the associated best practices helped to prepare and implement the various improvement plans.
