The Task
Mainnovation was asked to support the Equipment Criticality Project in Duisburg (Germany) and Pernis (Netherlands) by means of its Reliability Engineering step-by-step approach. Mainnovation’s task was to determine the right maintenance strategy and to support the implementation of the maintenance plans.
The Approach
The critical operating assets were determined, using the Norsok Standard Z-008 to determine the business risk for each main and sub-function. A group of Hexion technical experts, in close cooperation with Mainnovation, defined the maintenance plans by making use of the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) concept. Following the definition of mitigating actions, the business risk was estimated and projected onto the current availability losses and maintenance costs, which made it possible to define the potential technical availability.
Mainnovation’s Added Value
As a result of this project an average potential risk reduction of 58% was achieved for the first 3 production plants analyzed. This represents a possible improvement of approximately 60 days of technical availability.
