Heemskerk processes vegetables from Rijnsburg in the Netherlands. The company employs approximately 500 workers that process about 60 different types of vegetables each day. Heemskerk’s sales are experiencing strong growth. The replacement value of their assets is expected to increase by 50% within three years.

The Task
The former Technical Services Manager was freed up to make an important contribution to the ambitious investments program. This created a hole in the organization that Mainnovation filled with an experienced interim maintenance manager. Mainnovation was hired to develop a maintenance vision and an improvement plan. The new maintenance vision revolves around high equipment safety and reliability. This is necessary to be able to deliver 250 different end-products super fresh, day in and day out.

The Approach
maxresdefault2The maintenance organization has been reinforced with a maintenance engineer, a warehouse manager and a number of technicians. New equipment is now provided with the necessary documentation, coding, maintenance plans and spare parts on a timely basis. The workshop and the warehouse will be further modernized. The technicians have now been subdivided into zones. They are jointly responsible for the assets belonging to each zone. KPI performance is regularly tracked in zone meetings. The percentage preventive maintenance has since risen significantly. Most definitely now that each week production lines are scheduled for preventive maintenance.

Mainnovation’s Value Added
The required improvements were realized in a relatively short period of time. Once the new maintenance manager completed his familiarization, the interim manager took his leave from W. Heemskerk BV. The new manager will continue to pursue the implementation of the agreed upon improvement plan.
