The Task
GSK approached Mainnovation asking it to raise GSK’s existing maintenance to a higher level of maturity. Mainnovation developed a conceptual model and approach on the basis of the VDMXL methodology. By combining GSK’s and Mainnovation’s best practices into a new program, this resulted in an improvement to GSK’s existing Maintenance Excellence Program
The Approach
The new Maintenance Excellence Program contains an audit tool that assesses the maturity level of maintenance departments on the basis of 10 competences. For each competence the program comprises the theory, methodologies, process maps, tools and phased plans to improve these competencies. As a result the new audit tool and the Maintenance Excellence Program now go hand-in-hand. Any weak areas within a maintenance department can now easily be identified and improved in a structural way on the basis of ready-made programs.
Mainnovation’s Added Value
In part due to the development of this approach, it became clear that maintenance has the potential to contribute a great deal of value to GSK’s operating results. The Asset Care department was set up for this purpose within GSK Belgium to implement the program in actual practice in a structured way. Mainnovation has been asked to assist in the roll-out of this program.
