Mainnovation has been active in the Ports & Roads sector for years. It all started in 2000 when the Port of Rotterdam Authority asked us to implement VDMXL for the management and maintenance of the entire port. Shortly after that, we were asked to do the same for the Antwerp Port Authority.
At these two largest ports in Europe, we became familiar with the complexity of managing a seaport. The major diversity of asset types (quay walls, roads, radar stations, port bottoms, lands, buildings, floating fleets, cranes, etc.) makes clear-cut management difficult. Yet it is possible. For both ports, we were able to structure the entire Maintenance & Asset Management operation on the basis of a set of standard work processes and KPIs, supported by a single centralised EAM system. This resulted in significant cost savings for both ports without any negative impact on safety, availability and the ports’ image quality.
We are now supporting other companies in the Ports & Roads sector as well, such as the container terminals RWG, APM and DP World and road managers BAM, Heijmans and Volker Infra. VDMXL has demonstrated its added value for these companies as well.
